The Mavs should retire more key players’ numbers going forward

It’s nice to see teams like the Grizz wasting little time in showing the ultimate respect to key former players.

It’d be nice if the Mavs would do the same. Aside from Dirk, there’s a couple of other guys’ numbers that should definitely be in the rafters already in my opinion.

Finley, JET, Aguirre are the main 3 that come to mind.

Even though Cuban said the Mavs are retiring #24 in honor of Kobe, there should be a separate one for Aguirre. He was incredible. Thoughts?

Dalton, yes they should. They need to retire Jason Kidd's number especially now since he is the head coach. I would like for Cuban to retire Tyson Chandler's number & Jason Terry's number. J.J. Barea's number should be retired as well. I think Devin Harris should have his number retired but some people may disagree. They never retired Mark Aguirre's number?

From those of us who watched in the 80’s, there was nothing like a Mark Aguirre post up. That big rear was quite a weapon. He was our first credible star, should be in the rafters.

I second this opinion! Longtime players like Jason Terry, Shawn Marion, Jason Kidd, JJ B, and probably a few more. Not sure on this so I will ask, if he hangs the jersey and the rafters does he also have to retire the number?where players can not use this number?

Nope! Never did. It’s a shame too. It needs to happen.

I know that was before Cuban’s time with the Mavs, but you’d think he’d be able to look back at how much Aguirre meant to the Mavs and make the right decision.

Yes, once a jersey is retired, no one else who comes through the franchise can wear that number anymore. Which is why it’s kinda hard for Kidd & Barea, who had two separate stints with two different numbers.
