That option can be dangerous, because then a team wanting him may overpay him and try to force our hand. Knowing that our starting PG is on a super Max and we might not match a high offer they in the teens.
I know often a lot of players as an RFA the value drops as teams know you're going to match (probably) so they don't get an offer as money around the NBA dries up (Lauri). So it may be best, if we see him, as a great backup to sign him to a reasonable extension.
