Raptors playing the leverage game with Dragic?

Raptors GM Bobby Webster on the Dragic-Dallas rumors: "We entertained it, and we were up front with Goran...We liked him from the start...Ultimately, we want Goran here. I think he's happy to be here."

Raptors are playing the leverage game hard here I think. I respect it, but I don’t think Mavs will give into it. They’re already limited on assets as is. Can’t afford to give up multiple ones they do have for a 35yo on an expiring deal.

Dragic would have been nice.

In my opinion the Mavs are only a smidge better now than they were last year.

If the roster stays as it is now, they’re banking on KP having a breakout.

Yep, and again, it’s a tough situation. Because yes, they could *really* use Dragic, but I’m sure Masai Ujiri is wanting to be well compensated since he knows Dallas wants him. Like we know he’s not trading Dragic for Powell & Burke straight up for sure.

And J-Rich was so bad last year & such an odd fit that I can see Bullock having a decent impact. But the only thing that can truly push them to real contender status at this point is if KP turns back into Bubble KP. Which may not be possible, but we’ll see.

Well going forward, this front office has to know now to never, ever trade 1st rd picks. We’re not a destination city, we’re like Milwaukee. Not in size or market but in attractiveness.
Same reason the Bucks struggled forever. Had to draft Giannis, draft Middleton and got creative with the trade for Jrue. Made a good signing w Portis. That’s how we’re gonna have to operate from now on. Sucks but it’s real!

Now obviously if we ever can get a Kawhi or KD you trade a 1st in a heartbeat but like I’ve said, that ain’t happening!!

It’s all about opportunity when it comes to trades. I realize that going the free agency route might not ever work for the Mavs when it comes to landing a big name, but for trades all it takes is good timing. Ready to see how Nico approaches trades.
