Mavs Draft Day Predictions

Alright y’all, draft day is officially here. And like I’ve said before, even though the Mavs don’t have any picks as I type this, that can certainly change tonight. Even if Dallas doesn’t acquire any picks, there could still be some trade movement tonight. I believe it was Jake Fischer yesterday who said that a league exec told him that this might be the most trades we’ve ever seen on an NBA draft day.

My prediction, for what it’s worth, is that the Mavs will find a taker for Dwight Powell & move his money off the books.

Here is my prediction or hope. Mavs will trade Josh Richrdson for early second round pick.

Mavs move DFS for pick in the 40-50 range and draft Jericho Sims or Charles Bassey to replace WCS. If Powell or Brunson is moved I view that as a sign they have Lowry locked up. If Quentin Grimes or Feron Hunt goes undrafted I'd hope the Mavs take a flyer on either. Hunt would be the ideal DFS replacement.

Mavs will trade Brunson for the Brooklyn pick. They will use that pick to shed Powell's salary and get back a 2nd. They will use that 2nd round pick to pick up a big man project like Moses Wright.

My thoughts (and hopes) are either Josh Richardson or Powell are moved for cap relief. it is asking too much for both to be gone. My fear is neither are moved and we are not off to a very good start with the new regime. But it’s just another day.

I know Richardson has yet to opt in, but with his situation (his agent is Duffy) I believed Mavs has already been informed JRich's decision. But according to Brad Townsend, Nico Harrison don't know the answer yet.

Yes he is waiting till the last allocated time because he is making things difficult for the Mavs because he doesn't want to be traded

If there are no plans to trade a current player for a draft pick, how can cap space be created? Just cross our fingers and hope Richardson opts out?
